Tom Petty mastering session

Here are a few snaps that were taken at RTI/AcousTech during the cutting of Tom Petty's "Highway Companion" album. First three shots are of Kevin Gray and Hoffman with Ryan Ulyate. 4th shot is the tape threaded up on the machine. Last shot is one of the Tom Petty tape boxes (and the all-important Altoids box within easy reach). Ryan Ulyate, the recording and mixing engineer for the project brought his 30 ips 1/2" analog masters to RTI for us to work directly from. Ryan mentioned that both Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne were very enthusiastic about having this album come out on vinyl and Ryan went out and bought an audiophile grade turntable and phono stage just to be able to listen to the lacquer reference in his home studio. That's dedication!
